In December, I lost my stepmother to cancer. In the Catholic, Midwest farming community that I grew up in, there are certain expectations on funeral arrangements. My brothers, sister, and I shouldered the task of planning Bonnie’s funeral. We had a full eight hour wake (viewing) with over 700 people attending and a full Catholic funeral mass and burial ceremony. We had to select music, flowers, the casket, etc… I was grateful that my longtime friend, Craig Kramer of Kramer Funeral Home, guided us seamlessly through the process. He helped shoulder a big part of the responsibility.

Having just been through the experience of a family funeral, I felt the need to find a facility near my home that I could confidently recommend to my clients and friends.  I asked a few friends, who had recently lost a loved one, and the overall recommendation was for me to meet with David Roach, owner of West Cobb Funeral Home on Macland Road, Marietta, GA. David welcomed me into his beautiful facility and openly shared their philosophies and services.

I was very impressed with the professionalism David and his staff exhibited. When you lose a loved one there are many decisions to be made. I never realized the many different types of viewing, funeral services, cremation and burial options that were available to families. David and his staff strive to stay current on cultural and personal preferences and offer a wide range of services. At West Cobb Funeral Home they meet with the families in an “arrangement conference” and guide them every step of the way in the decision making process.

The staff at West Cobb Funeral Home has been working on a new website that will provide an even higher level of service to the families who have recently lost a loved one AND to the local community. This website offers a wide range of information including details of different funeral options, a Cremation with Confidence guarantee, local resources such as limo rentals and florist, and online-interactive obituaries.

I was especially impressed with the idea of the PreArrangement of  your funeral arrangements. Throughout my life, I have pre-planned major events such as my wedding, the birth of my children, my will, etc. Now, West Cobb Funeral Home offers a page on their website where you can plan your funeral preferences from the comfort of your home. I love the idea of planning this now so my family doesn’t have to guess what I would have wanted.

“Pre-arrangement is a thoughtful process of planning for one’s final arrangements before the need arises. This is done to keep your loved ones from facing one of the most difficult day of their lives uninformed and unprepared. Some of the aspects involved in planning a funeral are the gathering of vital statistics, biographical information, survivor information, and the specifics of the type of funeral service desired.

More than 100 decisions must be made when a death occurs. At the time of death, someone must accept the responsibility for making these decisions. Making funeral decisions and selections for someone, speculating on their preferences, may be one of the most difficult tasks a person can face. By planning ahead (pre-arrangements), one can relieve your loved ones of the burden of these many selections. Planning ahead allows you the peace of mind of knowing these decisions have been made.

By planning in advance you can be assured that your decisions will be honored. This process also provides the opportunity for sharing your plans and ideas for the personalization of your service with your family and friends.”

Whether you would like to preplan your own funeral arrangements or you need the a trusted funeral home for a loved one. I highly recommend you contact West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.
