Marietta’s Civil War
Marietta is experiencing the Civil War all over again and in a really big way! In fact the event, Marietta’s Civil War, has so many events and facets attached to it that they will not fit into just this one blog. What I really want to do is highlight Marietta‘s spectacular celebration so that you get a taste of what to expect come mid- April! First, there will be a re-premier of the movie The Great Locomotive Chase, a glittering event to commemorate the Great Locomotive Chase and the Southern Premiere of the movie held in 1956. Thus begins Marietta’s Great Locomotive Chase Weekend beginning on April 12th and ending on April 15th. Three museums: Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum, Marietta Museum of History, Root House Museum will be joining together on the Square to show what life was like on the Civil War home front here in Marietta for Civil War Days. There will also be Civil War bands, book signings, other museum presentations, and a statue dedication to commemorate the Civil War right in Marietta Square. I’ll keep you posted, as there are more exciting Marietta events this summer to follow this one up!
